Audental CoCr cobalt-chromium discs for CAD/CAM milling
Audental cobalt-chromium discs are CoCr metal discs intended for the CAD/CAM milling of dental prosthetic restorations and frameworks.
Their Ø 98 mm format is designed for open milling systems compatible with this standard and enables the fabrication of crowns, bridges, frameworks, implant-supported structures, abutments and bars.
The alloy combines mechanical strength, stability and corrosion resistance, key characteristics for metal and metal-ceramic dental restorations.
Massilia Dental offers Audental CoCr discs in 10, 12 and 14 mm thicknesses.
A CoCr alloy for dental CAD/CAM
Cobalt-chromium is a reference solution for the fabrication of many metal prosthetic frameworks.
In CAD/CAM disc form, the material enables the restoration to be fabricated directly by milling from the digital design.
This method allows the dental laboratory to integrate the fabrication of metal frameworks into its digital workflow, from CAD design through to milling of the part.
Audental CoCr discs are particularly intended for metal-ceramic restorations and implant-supported structures.
Laboratory applications
- Metal crowns.
- Metal-ceramic crowns.
- Metal bridges.
- Metal-ceramic bridges.
- Crown and bridge frameworks.
- Implant-supported structures.
- Implant bars.
- Abutments and prosthetic components suitable for the indication.
- CAD/CAM metal prosthetic frameworks.
From digital design to metal framework
Using a CoCr disc enables the laboratory to fabricate a metal framework directly from the digital file.
After design in the CAD software, the restoration is positioned in the disc using CAM software before the milling strategy is generated.
The framework is then milled from the solid disc, separated from the blank and subjected to the finishing operations defined by the laboratory protocol.
For metal-ceramic restorations, the framework can then receive the ceramic material compatible with the alloy according to the selected protocol.
Benefits of Audental cobalt-chromium discs
Mechanical strength
With a stated tensile strength of 750 MPa, Audental CoCr alloy provides the mechanical characteristics required for the fabrication of many metal prosthetic frameworks.
It is suitable in particular for crowns, bridges and implant-supported structures indicated by the manufacturer.
Corrosion resistance
Cobalt-chromium is valued in dental prosthetics for its corrosion resistance and stability.
Audental states a corrosion resistance value of < 200 µg/cm² for its CoCr disc.
Digital fabrication
The disc format makes it possible to integrate cobalt-chromium into a fully digital CAD/CAM workflow.
The CAD-designed restoration is reproduced directly by milling, without the traditional investing and casting steps.
Prosthetic versatility
The same material can be used for many indications: crowns, bridges, metal-ceramic frameworks and implant-supported structures.
The 10, 12 and 14 mm thicknesses make it possible to adapt the disc to the volume required for the restoration to be fabricated.

The choice of thickness mainly depends on the height of the restoration, its positioning within the disc and the constraints of the CAM strategy.
Metal-ceramic restorations
Audental CoCr discs can be used to fabricate frameworks intended for metal-ceramic restorations.
After milling and preparation of the metal framework, it can receive a compatible ceramic according to the protocol of the ceramic system used by the laboratory.
Audental states a ceramic / metal bond strength of 25 MPa.
Implant-supported structures
Audental CoCr is also intended for the fabrication of implant-supported structures and bars.
CAD/CAM milling makes it possible to fabricate the framework directly from the digital design and integrate its production into the laboratory’s digital workflow.
The choice of indication, geometry and milling parameters must remain consistent with the prosthetic system and protocol used.
CAD/CAM milling of cobalt-chromium
Unlike pre-sintered materials, the Audental CoCr disc is milled directly in its metal form.
Milling cobalt-chromium requires a milling machine compatible with hard-metal machining, as well as tools and a CAM strategy adapted to CoCr.
Cutting parameters, tools, lubrication and strategies must be adapted to the milling machine, CAM software and tooling system used by the laboratory.
A properly adapted strategy helps preserve surface quality, restoration accuracy and tool life.
From CAD file to CoCr restoration
- CAD design: creation of the crown, bridge or prosthetic framework.
- CAM positioning: placement of the restoration in the disc according to its volume and orientation.
- Strategy calculation: selection of a strategy adapted to cobalt-chromium and to the milling machine.
- Milling: fabrication of the framework directly from the CoCr disc.
- Separation: removal of the restoration from the disc after milling.
- Finishing: removal of connectors and surface preparation according to the type of work performed.
- Finalisation: metal finishing or metal-ceramic protocol according to the indication.
